It is expected that on graduation from our School students will have developed internationally minded attitudes which promote positive relationships, caring for the environment and life long learning.

The mandated Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) describes curriculum content through which the essential elements of the PYP are delivered.   VELS includes levels of learning over 2 years except for Level 1 – Prep.

The three strands and their associated domains are:

Physical, Personal and Social learning

  • Health and Physical Education
  • Personal Learning
  • Civics and Citizenship
  • Interpersonal Development

Discipline-based Learning

·         The Arts

·         English and Languages other than English

·         The Humanities (Economics, Geography and History)

·         Mathematics

·         Science

Interdisciplinary Learning

·         Communication

·         Design, Creativity and technology

·         Thinking

The planned delivery of the curriculum embraces the key elements of the PYP which ensures that students develop the essential skills and knowledge to prepare them for future learning, life and work.

REPORTING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Each strand is organised across stages of learning. With the exception of level 1, all levels are planned for and assessed over a 2 year period.  Assessment reflects the integrated nature of VELS.

·         Level 1 – End of Year Prep

·         Level 2 – End of Year 2

·         Level 3 – End of Year 4

·         Level 4 – End of Year 6

Our broad based Arts program is recognised as a particular feature of our school.  A diverse range of enrichment programs are delivered to promote and develop your child’s confidence and self-esteem. Opportunities are provided to participate in Visual Arts, Music, instrumental music, piano, choir, band and a school concert.

Children’s talents and abilities in Physical Education are promoted through participation in the Physical Education programs – including swimming, house athletics, cross-country, interschool sports and an interactive camps program.

We encourage you to participate in your child’s learning journey. Involvement in classroom programs including Literacy support, Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), and Swimming is vital. Contributions through various committees including School Council and Parents Association are also valued.

All members of staff look forward to working closely with you to ensure that opportunities are provided for your child’s optimum development – socially, emotionally, physically and academically during their time at Ripponlea Primary School.
