Learning Programs - House System

Ripponlea Primary School has four Houses named after local streets: Carrington (Yellow), Furneaux (Blue), Loch (Green) and Orrong (Red). Upon enrolment, children are placed in a House, with siblings allocated to the same House.

Each December, Year 5 students nominate for the position of House Captain for the following year and present an election speech to the Years 2 – 5 students in their House. There are four House Captains elected for each House, preferably with a balanced representation of gender.

House spirit is high and there are a variety of House competitions and celebrations to suit a range of interests (i.e. not just sport related). Throughout the year, House Captains help with a variety of functions and they encourage their House members to work well in all areas of school life. Teaching staff at Ripponlea have all been allocated to a House and they support the House Captains in their role. Regular House meetings are hosted in one of the House teacher’s classrooms.

Students are encouraged to proudly wear their House colours on special House days. The Uniform Shop now stocks House T-shirts for this purpose (purchase optional).
