For the first time in a number of years, all Foundation – Year 6 students jumped on the buses and headed to the track for a day of athletics and house spirit. The carnival began with a House March into the stadium before students split off into the two programs.
The F-2 students commenced their program with sprints, mini hurdles and shuttle relays on the track before moving to their field events which consisted of long jump, a bean bag push for accuracy and a vortex throw for distance. All students did a fantastic job completing all the events and were rewarded with a sticker for every event they completed.
In the meantime, the Year 3-6 students rotated around their field events consisting of long jump, triple jump, discus and shot put, all vying to receive a place ribbon and valuable points for their house. After a short break the track events began. Gale force winds meant we had to run the hurdle events in the opposite direction and I commend all students who willingly participated in this event. The rest of the track program consisted of the 100m, 200m, 800m and finished with house age shuttle relays which were worth double points.
All students are to be congratulated on their efforts and performances on the day.
